This constellation lays to the South from the Fish and the Sheep. The Greeks saw a sea monster in it, sent by Poceidon to ruin the land od Cefei and swollow his daoghter Andromeda.

The most known star in the Whale is Mira (Latin "surprising"). It is a longperiodical changeable star, a red giant.

The small star t in the Whale looks like the Sun by its characteristics. It became famous after the attempt of an American radioastronaut Fransis Drake to find the signals of nonterrestrial civilization. This attempt was not successful, but that was only the begining. From that time the star t came into the history.
